EIS CONTRIBUTE TO UKSCA CONFERENCE SUCCESS

EIS CONTRIBUTE TO UKSCA CONFERENCE SUCCESS

by James Skitt - 19.06.09

English Institute of Sport (EIS) practitioners were among presenters and delegates at the recent UK Strength & Conditioning Association (UKSCA) 5th Annual Conference at Wyboston, Bedfordshire.

The conference was organised by EIS Strength and Conditioning Coach Duncan French, in his role as UKSCA Director of Conference and Member CPD; the conference was attended by over 200 delegates from the Strength and Conditioning field including home country sports institute practitioners, private practitioners, students and coaches.

A series of keynote speakers included a list of world leading experts in Strength and Conditioning including Martin Rooney, Chief Operating Officer of the Parisi Speed School in America, Jeremy Boone, founder of the international sports performance consulting firm Athlete by Design Inc and Avery Faigenbaum, a Professor at The College of New Jersey and author of numerous publications on Strength and Conditioning.

Alongside the keynote speakers other presentations including those of EIS Strength and Conditioning Coaches Mark Jarvis and Tommy Yule on their work with wheelchair basketball and the use of weightlifting techniques respectively, both of which were well received by delegates.

“I really tried to take the conference up a step this year and we welcomed a record number of delegates” Duncan told eis2win.co.uk.

“We had an outstanding list of speakers with the more formal parts of the conference well balanced by both leisure and networking opportunities which included a successful gala dinner and an entertaining weightlifting competition” he added.

Feedback has been extremely positive, with one anonymous delegate leaving the following comment: “The conference was one of the best I have been too for a long time. The level of interest was high and I took so much away from it. I think it was very well organised, informative, professional and friendly, I would recommend it to anybody.”

The UK Strength and Conditioning Association aims to promote and disseminate good practice, knowledge and research appropriate to strength and conditioning practitioners and maintain high standards within the profession.

EIS National Strength and Conditioning Lead Raphael Brandon said: ‘The UKSCA event has previously been a CPD event of mixed value for EIS staff.  In contrast, every EIS attendee found this year’s event highly valuable.  Duncan deserves a lot of credit for that.’

Notes from workshops that EIS staff attended are being collated to send around to the whole S&C team.
