English Institute of Sport (EIS) support to England Squash and Racketball was showcased at the 9th World Squash Coaching and Development Conference in Hong Kong last month.
EIS National Lead Performance Analyst Stafford Murray presented two keynote addresses alongside England National Squash Coach Dave Pearson at the Conference, which coincided with World Squash Day on 23rd May.
Earlier this year the EIS secured a new partnership with England Squash and Racketball to provide sports science and medical support services for the next four years, building on the already close relationship which has seen the sport utilise every EIS service over the past seven years.
“The mutual trust and respect between the EIS and England Squash and Racketball has been built up over a long period of time and really highlights the benefit of strong relationships within the elite working environment” Murray says.
“The loyalty and hard work of all the staff involved is now coming to fruition in the success of our players” he adds.
Examples of the working relationship were illustrated at the conference as part of two keynote speeches given by Murray and Pearson.
The first keynote looked at how the services provided by the EIS are implemented within Squash’s elite programme, whilst the second address looked into the coaching philosophies and beliefs within the world class programme.
“The standard of the presentations at the conference was very high, however, it is clear that the work we do with the squash squad is still world leading” said Murray.
“To have an NGB national coach presenting alongside an EIS national lead really highlights the success of our partnership. Nevertheless, with the Commonwealth Games in India next year it is not the time to sit back and enjoy our current success, but to endeavour to improve and increase the current support we give to the players” he added.
The conference was attended by delegates from all over the world, whilst the Hon. Timothy Fok, IOC Member and President of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, delivered an encouraging speech in support of the World Squash Day, which aimed to promote the sports inclusion in the Olympics by 2016.
