UK Sport today announced the 2010 medal targets for Britain’s summer Olympic and Paralympic sports. These see up to 98 medals being targeted this year across the Olympic sports – with a range of 14-31 being targeted by sports at World Championships and between 53 and 67 in European or Commonwealth Games competition. Up to 99 medals are also being targeted in Paralympic sports at a World or European level.
UK Sport sets medal ranges with sports as part of their funding agreement and to benchmark the progress each sport is making on the world stage. Based on reasoned analysis and evidence, they highlight both the best possible outcome at an agreed event for the coming year in terms of athlete performance, and the point below which the sport will judge itself to have under-performed....
