The English Institute of Sport (EIS) has appointed Paul Davies as National Lead of Sport Science & Medicine for World Class funded sports competing in the Paralympics.
This new role with the EIS will be maximising the impact and developing sport science and medical services delivered to Paralympic sports’ performance programmes, working closely across all disciplines and practitioners working with Paralympic sports in all of the Home Country Institutes of Sport (HCIS).
Having worked at the ParalympicsGB for six years, the last four as Head of Sport Science and Medicine, Davies’s experience in working closely with sports in achieving success at the Paralympics in both Summer and Winter Games, meant he was an ideal candidate for the position.
“Paul will undertake a strategic role, working closely with practitioners working with Paralympic sports” said Dr Ken van Someren, EIS Director of Sport Science.
“Having worked as performance manager and head of sport science and medicine with ParalympicsGB, he brings great experience to the role with which he will be a significant addition to our team working closely across all of the disciplines” he added.
Davies will be working with all home country institutes of sport as well as key partners such as ParalympicsGB and UK Sport to ensure that best practice is recognised and knowledge is shared across the UK.
“This is a really exciting role and a great opportunity to work closely with sports in the sport science and medical services that underpin performance programmes, ensuring they develop performance benefits over the next cycle” says Davies, who began his role at the EIS last week.
“I am looking forward to ensuring that these sports continue to get the very best support from the EIS through building on the great service that already exists and helping to develop the specialist practitioners needed to help current and future Paralympians excel” he adds.
