The English Institute of Sport (EIS) hosted the inaugural meeting of the Strength & Conditioning Coaches Forum in Gateshead last week welcoming attendees from a range of backgrounds including professional sport, universities, institute practitioners and those in the private sector.
EIS Strength and Conditioning Coach Jared Deacon, who organised the event alongside former colleague Nick Grantham, now working for Gener8 Fitness Consultancy, told eis2win.co.uk: “The idea of a Strength & Conditioning Coaches Forum came about from conversations Nick and I had from which we decided it would be good to try and get coaches together in order to get to know each other, find out what’s going on and to share expertise.”
The meeting, well attended by 16 coaches from around the North East region, focused on the different approaches to Strength & Conditioning delivery in each of the different sectors, the challenges that each face and the strategies employed to deal with them.
“It was a good starting point and got the ball rolling for future events where more in depth and technical discussions can take place” said Deacon.
The second meeting of the new group is due to take place at the University of Northumbria in June.
