Sports Science and Medicine practitioners from the English Institute of Sport (EIS) are among the speakers delivering over 200 sessions at the International Convention on Science, Education and Medicine in Sport (ICSEMIS), organised by the International Olympic Committee, International Paralympic Committee, ICSSPE and FIMS, currently underway in Glasgow.
Director of Sport Science Ken van Someren and Head of Physiology Steve Ingham will present a symposium on the sports science support provided by the EIS, whilst Research Scientist Debbie Palmer-Green is also presenting on the impact of the UK Sport/EIS Injury/Illness Performance Project, which aims to identify how best to reduce the risks which could impact upon performance on the international sporting stage.
The convention, traditionally hosted every four years by the Olympic host nation, and this year incorporating the British Association of Sport and Exercise Science (BASE) conference, is bringing together over 2,500 delegates from every professional sector and academic discipline associated with sport, physical education, exercise, physical activity and sports medicine.
van Someren told eis2win.co.uk; “ICSEMIS is a very prestigious IOC organised sports convention attracting some of the worlds leading experts associated with sport, physical education, exercise, physical activity and sports medicine.
“Whilst in the competitive world of elite sport we obviously keep some of our secrets closely guarded, these conventions are a great opportunity for exchanging ideas and learning and form an essential part of driving standards in sport science and sport medicine forward.”
The prevention of sudden death in sport, concussion in sport, genetics and sport performance and realising the health benefits of physical activity are just some of the topics set to be covered this year, whilst some 1300 poster presentations will also be on show.
The convention is open to researchers, students and practitioners from every branch of sport and exercise. To find out more visit www.icsemis2012.com
