The English Institute of Sport (EIS) are supporting the first International Sport Science and Sports Medicine Conference to be held later this year in the North East.
Bringing together national and international experts alongside those working in the world of high performance sport, the conference will aim to address those key themes which will play a key part in the sport science and medical support of athletes.
“The EIS are supporting the first of what is hoped to be an ongoing international conference in this country, as part of our ongoing commitment to developing both our practitioners and also sport science and medicine disciplines themselves” says Conor O’Shea, EIS National Director.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for practitioners working in elite sport to access expertise from across the world and many of our practitioners will be hoping to attend” he adds.
Speakers at the event, on the 20-22 August in Newcastle Upon Tyne, include EIS Director of Medicine Dr Rod Jaques, EIS National Nutrition Lead Dr Samantha Stear, Regional Director for the North Peter Elliott MBE and EIS Physician and Chief Medical Officer to the British Paralympic Association, Dr Stuart Miller. A number of themes will be addressed from across disciplines, such as the prevention of injury, lessons from Beijing for all sports and nutrition strategies to optimise performance, delivered within a number of workshops over the two days as well as several key note speeches.
In addition to a number of EIS practitioners, there will be speakers from around the world of elite sport such as Prof Jiri Dvorak, MD the Chief Medical Officer at FIFA, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE, Prof David Pyne a physiologist from the Australian Institute of Sport, Nick Board Head of Science at Chelsea FC and many more.
