The first International Sports Science and Sports Medicine (ISSSM) Conference, which took place in Newcastle last month, was hailed a success after feedback from the 200 plus delegates who attended the event.
The conference, supported by the English Institute of Sport (EIS), was praised by delegates who represented some 25 different countries for its content, which included presentations from EIS Sport Science and Sport Medicine practitioners.
The 36 speakers and chairs, including some of the worlds leading experts, combined to deliver 26 sessions over the course of three days looking at a range of issues in the build up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond, whilst a further 39 poster presentations were displayed.
Presenters from the EIS included EIS Director of Sport Medicine Dr Rod Jaques, Sports Physician Dr Stuart Miller and Head of Performance Nutrition Dr Sam Stear, whilst EIS Regional Director for the North, Peter Elliott, a former Olympic middle distance runner himself, chaired a physiology session looking into what limits middle distance performance.
Dr Jaques, also a member of the conference organising committee, told eis2win.co.uk: “This first international sports science and sports medicine conference was a fantastic success combining insightful and stimulating content with a top class venue.”
“We have received some excellent feedback from many of the delegates and I look forward to building on the success of this event.”
Abstracts from the poster presentations will be published in the November online issue of the British Journal of Sports Medicine.
