Medal Laden weekend for ParalympicsGB

ParalympicsGB enjoyed a medal laden weekend of success at the London 2012 Paralympic Games to remain on course to improve on their Beijing performance of 102 medals.
A further 34 medals were added on Saturday and Sunday (16 and 18 respectively), to bring ParalympicsGB’s total up to 54, placing them second on the medal table ahead of Australia, Ukraine and Russia.
Among the weekend highlights was GB’s continued dominance of the velodrome, with Para-cyclist Neil Fachie and pilot Barney Storey setting a new world record in winning gold in the men’s Individual B 1km Time Trial, whilst Sarah Storey OBE claimed her second gold medal of the Games in the Women’s 500m Time Trial.
In the pool there was a world record for Ellie Simmonds on route to gold in the S6 Women’s 400m Freestyle, whilst Jessica-Jane Applegate also won gold in the Women’s 200 Freestyle S14.
In the Olympic stadium there were gold medals for Richard Whitehead in the men's T42 200m, Aled Davies in the men’s F42 Discus and David Weir in the Men’s 5000m T54.
There was also gold for Britain’s Mixed Coxed Four in the rowing at Eton Dorney whilst at Greenwich Park their was gold for Natasha Baker and Sophie Christiansen in the Grade II and Grade Ia Individual Championship Test respectively as well as the Equestrian Team.
