Great Britain won seven medals on the first day of sporting action at the London 2012 Paralympic Games yesterday.

The first medals for ParalympicsGB came in the velodrome, with Mark Colbourne winning silver in the men's C1-2-3 Time Trial before Storey won the eighth Paralympic gold of her career in the women's Individual C5 Pursuit.

In the pool, Jonathon Fox won GB’s second gold of the day in the S7 Men’s 100m backstroke, whilst Nyree Kindred and Hannah Russell both won silver medals in the S6 Women’s 100m Backstroke and S12 Women’s 400m Freestyle respectively.

In VI Judo Ben Quilter, who later revealed he had snapped the cruciate ligament in his knee and severely ruptured medial ligaments just seven weeks ago, battled back from a first round defeat to defending champion Mouloud Noura to win a bronze in the Men’s -60kg through the repecharge, whilst their was also a bronze for Zoe Newson in the women’s -40kg Powerlifting to leave Great Britain third on the medal table at the end of day one behind China (15 medals) and Australia (9).
