PARALYMPIC SPORT

PARALYMPIC SPORT

Paralympic Sports have provided numbers of successful athletes on the world stages in this country. The English Institute of Sport is working closely with a range of paralympic sports, aiming to build on the considerable success of the British team at Athens and at international competitions in recent years.

Across the EIS network a large proportion of paralympic sports are worked with including wheelchair basketball, swimming, wheelchair rugby, judo, table tennis and cycling amongst others.

Working closely with coaches, the EIS are able to tailor services both to the sport and the athletes themselves. Several sports have staff working solely with them as well as having access to all other disciplines, offering flexibility to their programmes.

The East Midlands is the lead for Paralympic sports, working with a variety of athletes within the region as well as supporting the provision of services nationally. Events such as the Paralympic World Cup, individual sports National and International competitions as well as the Paralympics all provide targets for programmes to be geared to.
