The English Institute of Sport (EIS) has announced the appointment of Dr Kevin Currell as its new Director of Science and Technical Development.

Dr Currell will lead the professional development of practitioners across the organisation, aiming to enhance their ability to work in partnership with coaches to positively impact on performance. He will also play a significant role within the EIS Senior Management Team.

The EIS’s Head of Performance Nutrition since 2013, Dr Currell joined the EIS in 2006 as part of the Practitioner Development Programme and worked with the GB Triathlon, Canoe Slalom and GB Short Track teams before overseeing a nutrition team working across more than 20 sports.

Dr Currell said: “It is a privilege to take on the role of Director of Science and Technical development for the EIS and build on the work of predecessors like Greg Whyte, Ken van Someren and Steve Ingham.

“The EIS is home to some incredible practitioners who everyday support athletes and coaches.  I am looking forward to observing their work as we head towards Pyeongchang and Tokyo, and create an environment in which they continue to thrive and do exceptional work.

“There is also a great opportunity to work closely with Graham Taylor and his team at UK Sport to align people development across the high performance system.”

EIS National Director Nigel Walker said: “Kevin has provided exceptional leadership to the Performance Nutrition team and I’m delighted to welcome him to our Senior Management Team within his new role.

“Kevin will be taking on the role of Director of Science and Technical Development at a very exciting time as we look to work more closely with UK Sport on a more aligned approach to people development across the system.”

Dr Currell will take up his new role from today (23rd January) with the search for his successor as Head of Performance Nutrition to begin immediately.
