The National Lottery and English Institute of Sport (EIS) ‘The Food Champions’ campaign has been shortlisted in the Best use of PR category for the prestigious BT Sports Industry Awards 2017.

The campaign, which can be viewed at, features 40 healthy, easy to prepare recipes and aims to share the eating habits and refuelling secrets of professional sportspeople with the public by taking the expertise which informs the dietary regimes of elite athletes’ and applying it to everyday lifestyles.

The recipes, developed by nutritionists from the EIS and named after athletes, focus on eight sports and are designed to deliver the necessary ‘nutritional outcomes’ that food needs to provide to help athletes improve performance in those sports.

EIS Director of Science and Technical Development Dr Kevin Currell said: “We’re delighted to have been shortlisted for the award.

“With the support of The National Lottery, through The Food Champions campaign we were able to neatly package up the expert advice our performance nutrition team delivers day in day out to the Olympic and Paralympic athletes we support. It provided us with unique opportunity to apply what we know about the science that fuels success to the wider public who want to achieve the same exercise outcomes, whether that’s improved recovery, building muscle or quick energy boost before training.”

The BT Sports Industry Awards event takes place at Battersea Evolution on 27th April. For more details see
