EIS position on COVID-19

James Platt | 24 March 2020

The English Institute of Sport (EIS) is committed to supporting athletes, sports and its staff during the unprecedented and uncertain times we currently face with COVID-19.

The EIS is closely following the advice from the Government and all EIS sites are now closed, and will be for the foreseeable future. We are in constant communication with our key stakeholders, including UK Sport, the National Governing Bodies for Sport, the British Olympic Association and the British Paralympic Association, as we continue to monitor and adapt to this fast-moving situation.

We understand this is a difficult time for everyone, and we’re committed to supporting the emotional and mental wellbeing of athletes and our staff.

For athletes, ongoing support from Performance Lifestyle Advisors, Psychologists, Doctors and other support staff is available and we encourage them to continue keeping in touch with these staff virtually.

The EIS Mental Health Team is working with organisations across high performance sport and we have set up a Positive Mental Health Group, which is meeting weekly, to ensure that resources are being developed and deployed where they are needed most.

We have also reiterated to our staff that the focus at this time should, and must be, on keeping themselves and their families and loved ones safe.
