Ramadan 2021

John Reeves | 23 April 2021

The English Institute of Sport (EIS) is celebrating Ramadan this month by sharing content on its internal and digital channels.

After recognising the period of national mourning for the Duke of Edinburgh, the EIS will share its first piece of content to raise awareness around Ramadan, which started on Monday 12 April, on its digital channels today.

Ramadan is the holiest month of the year for Muslims and remembers the month the Qur’an (the Muslim holy book) was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad. It is observed by millions around the world and will last for a month until Tuesday 11 May depending on the cycles of the moon.

In partnership with the EIS Nutrition team, we have adapted our #FoodFriday recipe series this month to focus on meals suitable for Ramadan. Our first recipe is a Thai Red Vegetable Curry – perfect for either the Sehri or the Iftar this Ramadan.

Our Nutrition team also caught up with EIS Alumni Dan Kings around the impact of Ramadan on athletes and their performance. Dan currently lives in Qatar working as a Director, Clinical Projects, at Aspetar.

A clip of this interview can be found below, with more content from the interview being shared in the EIS Alumni Group on LinkedIn. If you are an EIS Alumni and are not part of the group, please contact HR@uksportsinstitute.co.uk to be added.

As well as posting on our digital channels, we are increasing knowledge and awareness on our internal channels and in our weekly all staff newsletter.

Trixie Marchant, Diversity and Inclusion Manager at the EIS, when talking about the importance of raising awareness around Ramadan, said:

“Within the EIS, we are raising awareness about Ramadan throughout the holy month. This is both to support our Muslim colleagues and also to help us fully meet the needs of our elite athletes who are observing the fast whilst preparing for Tokyo 2020.

“The EIS sends its best wishes to all Muslim communities for an inspiring and rewarding Ramadan.”

Keep an eye on our channels over the next month for more content, including a TopTips Tuesday next week, around Ramadan.
