Sport Intelligence & Chelsea FC Knowledge Exchange Day

John Blenkharn | 02 March 2020

On Monday 24th February, members of the Sport Intelligence team travelled to Chelsea F.C.’s training ground in Cobham, Surrey for a knowledge exchange with members of their performance staff.

The day came about after meeting one of the Chelsea team at a conference before Christmas and it became apparent that there were a number of common data-related challenges in our respective worlds. As such, the day was set-up for the team to share their latest thinking on a number of areas and experiences working in Olympic and Paralympic sport and for the Chelsea team to do the same. A number of topics were covered throughout the day, including coach engagement, qualitative data and the journey towards using data to inform decisions.

John Blenkharn, Sport Intelligence Programme Manager, said “exchanges like this are a key part of our drive to learn from other like-minded, data-informed organisations. It is vital that we continue to look outside of our Olympic and Paralympic world to bring back into the system new ways of thinking and novel ideas.”

Lorna Belford, Sport Intelligence Consultant, said “we are really grateful to Chelsea FC for hosting the day. With such a bespoke topic area it’s key we share knowledge and future ideas to help maintain our world leading edge.”
