Through its network of eight high performance centres across England, the EIS is able to provide athletes and coaches with access to high quality facilities that are specifically designed for elite athletes.

Our sites are operated in conjunction with a range of partners, including Sport England, local authorities and Universities.

High Performance Centres

  • Bath

    EIS Bath High Performance Centre is based at the University of Bath and is home to a number of sports including Modern Pentathlon, Bobsleigh, Skeleton and Swimming. There is additional delivery across the south west provided from Weymouth (home of Sailing) and Plymouth (for Diving).

  • Birmingham

    EIS Birmingham HPC is based at the Alexander Stadium, with more local delivery across the west midlands provided at Lilleshall National Sports Centre and the University of Wolverhampton.

    The EIS High Performance at Bisham is home to wide range of athletes including those from Rowing, Para-Rowing, Hockey and England Women’s Rugby. It is also home to the Intensive Rehabilitation Unit, an EIS / BOA partnership.

  • Team GB Intensive Rehabilitation Unit

    The Intensive Rehabilitation Unit (IRU) is run in a partnership between the English Institute of Sport and the British Olympic Association (BOA) at the High Performance Centre, Bisham Abbey.

    The IRU exists to ensure the highest quality of sport science, medicine and therapy support to Team GB in preparation for, and at, all International Olympic Committee (IOC) accredited events, including the summer and winter Olympic Games. In order to achieve this, it is committed to working closely with the National Governing Bodies (NGB’s) and the Home Country Sports Institutes (HCSI’s).

    The service is available to UK World Class funded athletes from both summer and winter sports, across all the home nations. This multi-disciplinary residential service aims to provide timely, intensive rehabilitation to compliment and add value to an athlete’s recovery from surgery and/or injury. Referrals can be received either directly from the NGB or from HCSI support staff.
