EIS support services play a significant role in supporting the GB and England men’s and women’s hockey programmes based at Bisham Abbey.
The sport enjoyed great success in 2016, with the women’s squad winning Olympic gold in Rio.
To succeed at the Rio Olympics, the squad must achieve high physical and technical levels of performance over 8 matches in 13 days. To this end both the men’s and women’s squads have been focusing on the physical qualities necessary to underpin technical success across an intense tournament structure. Much of this is ensuring key players are available at the right times.
Performance Analysis is also a crucial service to the sport with advancements in technology helping the coaches get instant access to the information they need for athlete and team debriefs and help ensuring that player rotations are optimal.
In addition, both programmes access Sport Psychology, Physiotherapy and Sport Medicine as part of a multi-disciplinary service.
The sport also benefits from a world leading Performance Lifestyle service, helping athletes achieve a balance in combining their training whilst pursuing their careers or education.
GB Hockey Performance Director Danny Kerry said: “The services we receive from the EIS provide numerous benefits to our athletes and coaches. I strongly believe that this service has supported us in getting to the next level in terms of performance so we continue to compete and win against the best in the world.”
