British Weightlifting run an integrated Olympic and Paralympic Programme, where Weightlifting and Powerlifting athletes train alongside each other every day. EIS practitioners are integrated within the programme and resources are aligned to deliver performance.
Delivery is based at the EIS in Loughborough, where elite athletes and students are benefiting from a world class weightlifting facility thanks to a collaborative partnership between the University, British Weightlifting, the EIS and UK Sport.
The new purpose built area, completed in 2015 and part of the ‘Powerbase’ gym used by EIS supported and Loughborough student athletes, has been optimally designed to ensure athletes and coaches are able to get the most out of lifting sessions by accessing real time data that helps inform training programmes.
British Weightlifting Performance Director Tommy Yule says: “One of my priorities when I came into this role was to create a performance environment where athletes, support staff and coaches are inspired to learn and develop.
“In Loughborough there are multiple performance programmes and with the EIS base at the facility it is an ideal place for us as a performance programme.”
