The EIS provides sports medicine, physiotherapy and strength and conditioning services to the GB Wheelchair Tennis squad out of their base at the Bisham Abbey.
The challenges wheelchair tennis players face can be quite unique with players often not knowing start times for matches in advance and matches potentially lasting from between 45 minutes to 3 hours. They can also play up to 3 matches in a day at tournaments if playing singles and doubles. The strength and conditioning programme is therefore aimed at establishing robustness to reduce the risk of injury and develop on court specific conditioning and complimented by sports medicine and physiotherapy services.
Time is also spent educating players and coaching staff to ensure they are skilled and responsible for self-managing training, match preparation and recovery while overseas at tournaments.
